Grumpy Old Man
I am a 'grumpy old man' (not that old) who thinks that we pay ever increasing council tax for ever decreasing services. I am also saddened at the breathtaking decline in civic pride, good manners, patience and standard of driving in the past 10 years, and the failure of the authorities to address these issues.
I was recently enraged by the breathtaking hypocrisy of yet another self-centred, rhetoric spouting politician who stated that
"...the government will not tolerate wage rises above the rate of inflation for either the public or private sector".
Fine words Mr Gordon Brown, but what about the gigantic rise in the community charge? From memory a 25% increase last year and about 8% this (2004). Utility costs continue to rise above the rate of inflation too. How do you think people will pay for those increases? Not to mention the increases in salary and pensions the politicians voted themselves - but then of course, they are a 'special case'. Do forgive me though, I have never understood why that is? But then why should I? I'm just one of the people that has to fund it.
Yet again, one rule for the politicians and another for the those that pay their salaries. Keep your nose in the trough Mr Brown, along with the other politicians. You're alright 'Jack'.
Oh, and speaking of Jack; I now read (2005) that whilst out of government for two years Jack Cunningham was employed by one of the PFI companies that he helped put in place to milk money from the State. Well done Mr C, the trough is getting bigger.
